As Ryder Cup coverage promotes the whole zillion dollar affair as though it’s just a family gathering with a little heated golf in between, the TV gravitates toward the players’ families in a way it usually doesn’t. On the PGA Tour, wives and girlfriends usually make an appearance on the 18th green and hug the winner, but that’s all you see of them. During the Ryder Cup, since it’s a team event, the families are part of the ceremony and the women walk the course together and get plenty of air time.
It’s a formula that figures to put Jillian Stacey on camera quite a bit this weekend. Stacey is the attractive girlfriend of American golfer (and 2011 PGA Champion) Keegan Bradley–a young fast exciting player sure to make an impact in the matches. Stacey won’t be shy about the camera time, if her Instagram habits are any indication. But what the TV never shows is that some of the girlfriends and wives have pretty good golf swings themselves.
