It’s hard for a man with Jeremy Lin’s outsize profile–especially now that he’s in Hollywood–but Lin understands how important it is to stay low this season. On defense, that is. Lin went on Instagram to tell fans what he’s been working on as he tries to wrest the starting Lakers point guard job from two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash.
Lin’s defense has been a sore spot since even before he lit up the world in the weeks that became known for the Linsanity. For his debut in the purple and gold, Lin writes: “This offseason I have been working really hard on my defense, footwork and explosiveness…being able to stay low in my defensive stance.. and stay balanced…” One thing that might trouble the Lakers once camp starts is how to assess Lin’s progress. He’ll be guarding the crafty but 40-year-old Steve Nash, whose own explosiveness and defense are questionable. Lin could excel against Nash throughout the preseason and still look awfully unbalanced when Chris Paul starts crossing over.
