Kevin Burkhardt and John Lynch have pretty good jobs. They love football and on Sundays they get to broadcast NFL games for FOX. They’re consummate professionals. They bring the info every game. But you know what? They’re second string. How do we know? Because now they’ll be working with veteran sideline reporter Pam Oliver, the 53-year-old who was noisily cut from the first string squad during the off-season, in favor of the younger Erin Andrews. (“It’s not difficult to notice that the new on-air people there are all young, blond and ‘hot.’ That’s not to say that Erin isn’t capable,” Oliver has said.)
People generally know that Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are the No. 1 Fox broadcast team. But it’s a sort of background fact. There are so many NFL games on so many channels and sites–and so many broadcasters–that you don’t really register Burkhardt and Lynch as second stringers. Until this seasaon when you hear one of them ask Pam Oliver a question–then you’ll know.
