Hip-hop artists Rihanna and Drake were seen partying together this week at the New York City nightclub Griffin. Rumors are flying that they’re dating again. (They got caught in a love triangle last year, as watchers know.) In April 2013, after similar speculation Drake admitted to dating Rihanna, the singer and former lover of fellow rapper Chris Brown. That admission came right around the time Rihanna was supposedly rekindling her relationship with Brown, four years after Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault charges against her. The Drake affair did in the rekindling apparently–in May 2013, Brown announced that he and Rihanna had broken up again.
Over the years Rihanna has often collaborated professionally with her lovers. Chris Brown sings on her single Birthday Cake and she on his Turn Up the Music. But neither cut was commercially successful. Collaborating with Drake was different: Rihanna’s single What’s My Name? reached number one in the US and UK. On Drake’s album Take Care, Rihanna provided vocals on the single Take Care–which reached number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100. There are a number of reasons why fans would like to see Rihanna with Drake rather than Chris Brown, but what could be leading her “into the lap” of Drake (as he likes to say) is commercial success.
