As the world knows, on August 9, 2014, NASCAR race car driver Tony Stewart struck and killed driver Kevin Ward Jr. during a dirt track race in upstate New York. Stewart’s car collided with Ward’s. Ward later exited his car and walked toward Stewart as Stewart rounded the track. Stewart’s car struck Ward and killed him. No charges have been made but an investigation is ongoing. Fans have rallied around Stewart.
Stewart will not drive until the investigation is over, which Sheriff Philip C. Povero said should take up to two weeks. Brett Frood, executive vice president of Stewart-Haas Racing, told Sporting News: “Right now it’s about getting Tony in a better place than he is. When he’s ready to do that, he’ll get back in the car.”
