Florida’s first game of the 2014 season, against the Idaho Vandals, was cancelled due to severe weather (heavy rain and lightning). It’s up to both universities to determine if the game will be rescheduled (possibly in late October) or considered “a no contest” in an 11-game schedule.
While the powers that be figure that out, Florida is getting ready to host the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Saturday, September 6. The Gators are eager to prove that last year’s season – the first time since 1979 that they finished with a losing record – was a fluke. Or the fault of offensive coordinator Brent Pease and offensive line coach Tim Davis who were fired the day after the 2013 season finale. While the Eagles had difficulty knocking down a ceremonial wall of cinder blocks before their game against the Morgan State Bears (it was to inaugurate Eastern Michigan’s new field, The Factory), the Eagles did beat the Bears 31-28.
