The developers on Ubisoft’s action-adventure video game Watch Dogs are working on a piece of DLC (downloadable content) set in Camden, New Jersey. While many games are set in bigger cities like New York and Los Angeles (the recently released Watch Dogs is set in a fictionalized Chicago, for example), this DLC will be set in Camden, the city with the highest crime rate in the US. According to a teaser image for the DLC: “A 24/7 surveillance program is now in effect.”
Lone vigilante Aiden Pearce is the protagonist of the single-player story Watch Dogs. He’s a grey hat hacker, responsible for the Northeast blackout of 2003, who’s seeking revenge after the accidental death of his niece. He’s described by Xavier Griffiths at GameReview as “a cross between James Bond and Batman, except without the charm.” Watch Dogs has been a great success, notably in the UK and Japan. As of July 10, the game had shipped 8 million copies. It’ll be interesting to see how gamers respond to Camden, a city once the frontier of technology.
