New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady wants to play “for a long time,” he told ESPN. But in practically the same breath he realistically said that the most important year is “this year, because that’s all we have.” The statement speaks mostly to Brady’s focus on the immediate future, his desire to win now, etc. But it also tells a story. The Tom Brady countdown has begun in earnest, and any game could be the last Tom Brady-level game he’ll play and he knows it.
Tedy Bruschi and Brady, his former teammate, had a funny exchange on ESPN about how long Brady would keep showing up for work. Bruschi said Brady has four years left. Brady’s response? “You’re out of your mind,” said the quarterback, who is under contract through 2017.
