Miralem Pjanic of the Roma soccer squad scored an unlikely 60-yard goal in a loss to soccer powerhouse Manchester United in an International Champions Cup match in Denver. Down 3-0 the Roma player launched a right footed blast from beyond midfield that was inspired by American football field goals. If only Pjanjic had receive what a Denver Broncos kicker would have gotten for the kick: 3 points! The inspiration for the kick is no surprise–the game was being played at Mile High Stadium, home of the Broncos.
The shot surprised and embarrassed Man U goalkeeper Ben Amos when it struck the back of the net. It wouldn’t have if he’d been at the Broncos facility where the Roma team was practicing. The 24-year-old soccer star Pjanic made easy work of 50-yard field goals in practice. Check out the video.
