Eight boys went to a Gaza beach to play soccer on Wednesday. Four of the boys were killed by Israeli missiles—all cousins, 9 to 11 years old. All were members of the Bakr clan, a circle of families so large a neighborhood in Gaza bears its name (Bab al-Bahr, or “Gate of the Sea,” is one of seven historic gates to the Old City of Gaza). This isn’t the first time members of the Bakr clan have been killed by Israeli warfare; three were killed during the Israel-Hamas confrontation in 2008-2009.
The Hamas Health Ministry has named the four children killed as Zakaria Ahed Bakr, 10, Ahed Atef Bakr, 10, Mohammed Ramez Bakr, 11, and Ismail Mohammed Bakr, 9.
