Only two days left until the single “Bang Bang” featuring Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande and Jessie J will be released. Knowing that their fans can’t wait, Minaj released a 25-second teaser. Minaj’s heard rapping: “Bang bang cocking it / Queen Nicki dominant / It’s me, Jessie and Ari / If they test me they sorry.” The complete song and video will be released July 29.
In 1966, Cher released her second single “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down).” It was written by Cher’s then-husband Sonny Bono. It was her biggest solo hit of the decade, peaking at #2 on the charts. Steve Wonder covered it, as did Nancy Sinatra. Sinatra’s version is probably the most popular. You can hear it in Quentin Tarantino’s film Kill Bill. Minaj’s friend Lil Wayne sampled it on his mix-tape Dedication 2. Lady Gaga, Bon Jovi, will.i.am, Rage Against the Machine, you name the artist and they’ve covered it. Minaj (not a friend of Cher’s), Grande and Jessie J know how to sing and promote their music, but it’s doubtful that their Bang Bang will last as long as Sonny and Cher’s.
