In Louisville, Kentucky, a 43-year-old man named Andre Ballard left a restaurant called Indi’s after finishing his shift on Sunday night. He’d done this thousands of times, having worked there for eight steady years. This time though, on his way to the bus, someone shot Mr. Ballard through the stomach, removing his wallet and cellphone as he crumpled onto the street. He’d been speaking on the phone when the bullet pierced him.
Ballard left behind seven children, when early the next morning he died at University Hospital.
