HBO is in the news for rebranding its HBOMax brand as just Max — and one of the first trailers to run with the Max brand is Season 4 of the crime drama True Detective. It’s subtitled ‘Night Country’ as it’s set in Ennis, Alaska.
Two-time Oscar winner Jodie Foster (The Silence of the Lambs, The Accused, Taxi Driver) plays the protagonist, Detective Liz Danvers, who investigates the disappearance of a crew of men from a research station. One of the first strange clues discovered is the men’s boots. How scared do you have to be to run out on the ice without any shoes? someone asks rhetorically. (Pretty damn scared is the answer).
As seen in the trailer above, Danvers stands in the back of a pickup truck and announces that the research center is a crime scene and tells her team, “No more f–king around.”
Danvers partners up with fellow female detective Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis). Navarro isn’t excited to work with Danvers and lets her know it: “You think I want to work with you? Take a look in the mirror, no one can stand you.”
Fans of True Detective and Foster are excited about the new season. As one fan noted: it’s difficult not to think of Foster’s character Clarice Starling from The Silence of the Lambs when you hear her voice in the beginning of the trailer. As another fan put it: “Clarice Starling-style!” Let’s hope Danvers “doesn’t spook easily” like Clarice.
