The Seattle Sounders of the MLS made a super savvy move in inviting Ciara and Russell Wilson to be part of the ownership group this season. Guess what? The Sounders won the MLS Cup! And on picture day, Ciara’s white ripped short shorts were part of the show! There’s the glitz!
Sports franchises these days need an element of glitz and star power to compete for attention in a attention deficit world. Look at Drake’s antics on the Toronto Raptors sidelines or the virtual red carpet of celebs that shows up at the US Open in New York each year to watch Federer, Nadal and Serena. US soccer has its passionate fans, but it has so far lacked that crossover action where it seeps in to the culture. Celebs, for better or worse, help the cause.
