Toronto Raptors All-Star Kawhi Leonard hasn’t stepped over a Lakers guard the way Allen Iverson famously stepped over Tyronn Lue in the NBA Finals back in the day. But if the snippet from the interview below is any indication, Leonard will have no problem stepping over the entire Lakers organization in his upcoming free agency. (Rumors have pictured Leonard returning home, either to the Lakers or the LA Clippers.)
Leonard says he never did have any love for the Lakers, despite being a Southern California native and despite the fact that his family are all Lakers fans. Leonard says he was an Allen Iverson guy — and everything from his braids to his toughness still speak to Iverson’s influence.
Chatter about Kawhi only gets louder because the taciturn superstar never feeds it. Will he stay in Toronto? Head to Mark Cuban‘s Mavericks? The Clippers or the Brooklyn Nets? No one knows. Maybe not even Kawhi Leonard, who is remarkably believable when he says he takes things one day at a time and stays in the moment. For others, that’s a cliche. For Leonard, it seems to be the truth.
