When the professionals at Swarovski heard about pop diva Cher losing her favorite rhinestone embellished “Eat the Rich” tank top in March, which she’s had for “30-40 years”, they did something about it. They sent her a new shirt featuring a small skull with a crossed fork and knife beneath it that reads “Eat the Rich.” But rather than use rhinestones, this one was “lovingly hand embellished” with Swarovski crystals, says the hand-written note to Cher. (Another classy move.) The company admits that while they cannot “turn back time”, they do hope it will be Cher’s new “old favorite” tee. Cher posted a photo of tee with the caption: “So sweet” (see below).
Eat the Rich was the title of a 1987 dark comedy film featuring Motorhead songs including one the band wrote specifically for the film. The saying “Eat the Rich” is attributed to philosopher Rousseau who wrote “When the people shall have nothing more to eat, they will eat the rich.” The late Dee Dee Ramone famously wore an Eat the Rich t-shirt, too.
