NBA legend Charles Barkley says lemon bars are his favorite desert. “Anything lemon is my favorite thing,” he says. Then Barkley says “Krispy Kreme is my favorite dessert.” As is a big part of his job at TNT, host Ernie Johnson questions this Barkley proclamation — “I thought red velvet cake was [your favorite],” Johnson asserts, with the confidence of a man who has done his research. “They are,” answers Barkley, explaining “it’s a fluid situation, Ernie.”
A fluid situation! What better could describe Barkley’s style of commentary, where he often says one thing and then happily and hilariously contradicts himself a moment later? Johnson plays Barkley’s straight man perfectly, whether the subject is lemon bars or LeBron James.
After watching the video below, NBA fans will at least recognize that Barkley doesn’t just do this when commenting on basketball teams and basketball players, changing his position faster than he can eat a lemon bar. Nope, Barkley’s an equal opportunity equivocator: he does dessert just like he does basketball. Like lemon bars, Charles Barkley may be an acquired taste. But also like lemon bars, once you acquire a taste for some Barkley it’s hard to stop.
Chuck celebrated #InternationalNoDietDay with a pile of lemon bars. 🤣 pic.twitter.com/cn9njRE0jE
