On the Meet the Peetes episode “It Runs in the Family,” actress Holly Robinson Peete is packing for her next job. She’s starring in the third Morning Show Mystery movie on Hallmark Channel with co-star, NBA champion Rick Fox. While packing, she’s joined by her mother Dolores and 16-year-old son Robinson James Peete.
When Robinson tells his mother he wants to try acting, she buries her face in her open suitcase. She turned to her mother, who managed her career and her late father’s career and says, “I didn’t want an actor.” Dolores reminds her, with a smile and laugh, she didn’t want her too either. (Nevertheless, Holly made her acting debut on Sesame Street at the age of 5.)

Holly’s father was Matt Robinson. On-camera the Philadelphia native was best known for his role as the original Gordon on PBS’ Sesame Street. (He was also the voice of puppet Roosevelt Franklin, the first black-influenced Muppet designed by Jim Henson.) Gordon was played by three actors: the last was Roscoe Orman from 1974-2016.
After Sesame Street, Matt Robinson also wrote for a number of popular TV shows including Sanford and Son, The Waltons, Eight Is Enough, The Jeffersons, The Cosby Show, and Blue’s Clues before he died in 2002 at the age of 65. At the age of 45 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Holly and her husband Rodney Peete’s foundation, HollyRod Foundation, provides “medical, physical, and emotional support” to individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease as well as to families of children with autism.
