In the Star episode “Amazing Grace,” Carlotta (Queen Latifah) and Gravity throw a Legend Tribute concert to campaign for the ASA Awards. When Star’s (Jude Demorest) health takes a turn for the worse, Simone (Brittany O’Grady) is put in an awkward situation. Meanwhile, Alex (Ryan Destiny) tries to trust her family again, while Noah (Luke James) faces new issues with his mother, Dianne.

Noah’s mother Dianne is portrayed by Kimberly Elise. She’s known for her roles on Hit the Floor (Sloane Hayes), Grey’s Anatomy (Dr. Rebecca Swender), Close to Home (Maureen Scofield).
Elise is also know for films including Diary of a Mad Black Woman (Helen), two with Denzel Washington — The Manchurian Candidate (Rosie), John Q (Denise Archibald) — and Beloved with Oprah Winfrey (Denver), among others. Elise will appear next (in May!) on the big screen in Ad Astra with Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland. Star airs Wednesdays at 9 pm on FOX, right after Empire.
