On the series Married to Medicine episode “ATL in La La Land,” the ladies from Atlanta travel to Los Angeles to meet the stars of the spin-off LA-based show. Watching Southern Belle Heavenly Kimes get picked up at LAX by a door-less Jeep rather than a stretch limo or Mercedes sedan (which she expects) is hilarious. And watching Heavenly meet Dr. Imani Walker is another moment to behold. Imani is six-feet-tall with a shaved head — she’s also a no-nonsense psychiatrist whose patients suffer from various mental issues, including schizophrenia and chronic depression. When not at work, Imani spends quality time with her husband Phil Johnson, former singer in the 90’s R&B group Portrait (see link below for the band).
[Portrait’s most recent album, Share My Love (2005)]
Portrait, which was known for its new jack swing style, released four albums. The last, Share My Love, was released in 2005 after a nine-year hiatus. Fun fact: Portrait appeared on an episode of the popular sitcom Family Matters. On the 1993 episode “Stormy Weather” they performed their hit song “Here We Go Again!” at a high school dance where Waldo (trying to impress a girl) claims one of the band members is his cousin. Married to Medicine airs Sundays at 9 pm on Bravo, right after The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
