Squirrel Boss is an interactive squirrel-proof bird feeder. It’s a solution to the problem of keeping squirrels from climbing and eating the bird seed in bird feeders. The feeder looks like a normal vertical-hanging bird feeder but it comes with a remote that “zaps” a squirrel with “a harmless static shock correction” which causes the squirrel to run away. It’s like the shock you receive when walking over a carpet and then touching something: “It tingles, but it doesn’t hurt you.” The inventor of Squirrel Boss, Michael J. Desanti of Hawley, Pennsylvania, pitched his product on Shark Tank in May 2013. He went into the Tank seeking an investment of $130,000 in exchange for 40 percent equity but, alas, he did not land a deal.
The Squirrel Boss, which was originally $98 is now on sale for $49 online. It comes with the stainless steel feeding stations, feed tube, remote control (and holder), batteries and a/c charger. New episodes of Shark Tank air Sundays at 9 pm on ABC. [Related: 27 Favorite ‘Shark Tank’ Products at Amazon — New List]
