In the Superstore episode “Maternity Leave,” Amy (America Ferrera) finds out that she doesn’t have maternity leave and is forced to come to work. To make matters worse, her co-workers Cheyenne (Nichole Bloom) and Mateo (Nico Santos) are trying to change her baby’s name. Meanwhile, Jonah (Ben Feldman) and Garrett (Colton Dunn) interview people looking to join the Cloud 9 team for seasonal work including Penny who brings 50 references and her odd sense of humor.
Penny is portrayed by Eden Sher. She’s best known for her role as Sue Heck on The Middle which ended earlier this year after 9 seasons. Sher is reprising her role as Sue in the 2019 spin-off Sue Sue in the City (Sue moves to Chicago). Sher is also recognized for her roles on Sons & Daughters (Carrie Fenton), Weeds (Gretchen),and in the 2018 Netflix film Step Sisters (Beth), among others. Superstore airs Thursdays at 8 pm on NBC, right before The Good Place.
