The Dateline episode “Everything She Knew” investigates the murder of Amber Belken, a 25-year-old woman who managed a EB Games video game store in San Antonio, Texas. The petite (5’2”, 100-lbs.) young woman was found dead in the backroom of the store on January 29, 2007. During a robbery of the store, she had been suffocated with a bag. Belken’s murderer, Belken’s former EB Games employee Geovany Rivera, fled to Mexico to avoid prosecution. He was put on the U.S. Marshals “15 Most Wanted” fugitive list. One year later, Rivera was apprehended by Mexican authorities and was handed over to U.S. Marshals in Texas. In 2010, Rivera, 25, entered a plea agreement to accept a life sentence in prison rather than face the death penalty.
When Rivera was arrested in 2008, gaming website Kotaku reported that “this particular case resulted in one of the largest rewards in San Antonio’s history – $100,000, $95,000 of which was put up from EB Games.” New episodes of Dateline air Fridays at 10 pm on NBC.
