On the Counting On episode “Thrift Store Date Night,” three Duggar couples (Jess & Ben, Joe & Kendra, and Josiah & Lauren) decide to go out on a group date. That’s not so unusual among a family of 19 children. What is unusual is their idea for the spouses to buy outfits for each other at a thrift store to wear on the group date. When the wives finish their shopping spree at the thrift store, they meet their husbands at Joe and Kendra’s home and ask them to try on the outfits. From the way the ladies are talking and laughing, you’d expect the men to come out in outrageous costumes. (We had short shorts in mind, or a Saturday Night Fever white suit with black silk shirt.) Nonetheless, the ladies have a great laugh when Ben and Joe come out wearing cardigan sweaters and ties and Josiah is wearing pajamas and a robe. That was Josiah’s “prank” outfit.

Jessa explains that Josiah is the prankster in the family. “So the fact that Lauren was brave enough, to pull a prank like this on Josiah, I just thought it was so great.” Jessa elaborates, “Sometimes it’s easier to dish it out than to take it. I think Josiah is a little nervous” about maybe having to wear the outfit in public. Josiah didn’t seem as much nervous as confused: “I look like a college student in med school just walking out of his apartment.” Apparently, Josiah believes med students wear hospital robes to school.
