In July 2012, 16-year-old Skylar Neese of Star City, West Virginia was brutally stabbed to death by two of her high school friends, Shelia Eddy and Rachel Shoaf. Neese went missing for five months before Shoaf told police where they could find Neese’s body (in the woods, about 30 miles from her home). Prosecutors alleged that Neese knew Shoaf and Eddy were in a sexual relationship and they worried that Neese would tell others at school. Dateline investigates the brutal murder of 16-year-old Skylar Neese, probing the motive and examining the aftermath for Neese’s killers.
In 2014, Rachel Shoaf, 18, was sentenced to 30 years in prison with the possibility of parole after serving 10 years – that’s in 2024; she will be 28. Shelia Eddy, also 18, pled guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years. If granted, Eddy would be out in 2029 when she is 33. Dateline airs Fridays at 10pm on NBC.
