For The Voice Battle Rounds, coach Alicia Keys teams up with pop sensation Shawn Mendes to help her artists prepare. Keys has Sharane Calister, the 24-year-old from Des Moines, Iowa who was separated from her twin sister, pitted against Jamai, the 28-year-old from Chester, Pennsylvania who was raised by his grandmother after his mother’s tragic death. Sharane sang “Make It Rain” for her Blind Audition. Jamai sang “U Got It Bad.” For their Battle Round, Sharane and Jamai sing Shawn Mendes’ song “Mercy.” (Talk about pressure, he’s the advisor. Then again, they certainly get the inside scoop.)

During rehearsals, Mendes tells the artists, “Don’t be nervous.” He tells Jamai “When you’re in that verse (Show me an open door), just get emotionally invested.” Easier said than done, Shawn! The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC. See Shawn Mendes’s version below.
