The new FOX drama 9-1-1 shines the light on first-responders including Detective Athena Grant (Angela Bassett) and dispatcher Abby Clark (Connie Britton). In the series premiere (January 3) we meet the life-saving characters and some of their family members including Abby’s mother, who’s in the hospital.
[Hartley won an Emmy for her role in The Incredible Hulk]
Abby’s mother is portrayed by Mariette Hartley. The Emmy Award* winning actress is known for her roles on Law & Order: SVU (Lorna Scarry), One Life to Live (Sister Mary Daniel), Goodnight, Beantown (Jennifer Barnes), Peyton Place (Claire Morton), The Incredible Hulk (*Dr. Carolyn Fields, see link above), Gunsmoke, and Bonanza, among many others. Hartley is also recognized for her role in the Alfred Hitchcock film Marnie (Susan Clabon), and in a long-lasting advertising campaign for Polaroid cameras with James Garner (1977 to 1984). They made more than 300 commercials together, pretending to be husband and wife (see below). 9-1-1 airs Wednesdays at 9pm on FOX, right after The X-Files.
