The two-hour My 600-lb Life episode “Rena & Lee’s Story” tells the story of a couple who met and fell in love at a bariatric rehab center. They became an item at the clinic which broke the rules. According to Rena, “We either had to stop dating or leave.” They’ve been together ever since. And that was 11 years ago. Now, Lee and Rena are fighting not just to save their relationship but also their lives. Rena says, “Leaving the clinic with both of us struggling with food had not been a good thing.” They have both gained a lot more weight.
The My 600-lb Life cameras follow them as they go grocery shopping. Rena says it’s difficult to go out in public because they are different. “It’s like driving down the highway and seeing a trainwreck. You’re going to sit, stare and wonder what happened.” In scooters, Rena and Lee go up and down the aisles and fill their cart with potato chips, soda, bacon and mayonnaise. Lee says eating fills void and compares it to “laying down and getting a good massage. And when it’s over you just want more.” My 600-lb Life airs Wednesdays at 8pm on TLC.
