The great costume designer Bob Mackie returned to help put together The Carol Burnett 50th Anniversary Special. Regular players Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner also join Burnett. And then there are the guest stars that Burnett’s great comedy influenced — and the names don’t get any bigger. Try these ten for starters, all of whom will appear: Jim Carrey, Kristin Chenoweth, Stephen Colbert, Harry Connick Jr., Bill Hader (who Bill Murray named the best SNL performer of all time), Jay Leno, Jane Lynch, Bernadette Peters, Maya Rudolph and Martin Short.
The Carol Burnett Show premiered on Sept. 11, 1967. The 2-hour Carol Burnett 50th Anniversary Special airs Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 8pm ET on CBS, where it all began. The original run won 25 Primetime Emmys, and it would be no surprise if the 50th Anniversary celebration repeated the trick, nabbing one final Emmy for posterity. Burnett is appearing on LIVE with Kelly and Ryan and elsewhere this week to promote the show and take her bows. You can also stream 9000+ episodes and live TV with a CBS All-Access free trial.
