LaVar Ball brought the wrath of naysayers down once again this week, predicting that the visiting Washington Wizards were in trouble coming into the Lakers domain. Why? Because LaVar said his son, the rookie sensation with weighty expectations Lonzo Ball, couldn’t lose twice in the same week. The Wizards sneered, with center Marcin Gortat responding puh-leeeeze and saying All-Star Wizards guard John Wall would “torture” Lonzo Ball all night.
Well LaVar Ball’s prediction looked pretty good and Gortat looked less prescient at the end of the night. LaVar called a win for the Lakers and the team delivered, beating the Wizards 102-99. Wall didn’t make Gortat look like Nostradamus either, going just 7-of-22 from the floor and scoring 18 in the loss. (Wall played 40 minutes.) It’s hard to say that Lonzo drove the Lakers to victory though. Ball scored just six points in 39 minutes, shooting 2-of-11 and 0-of-5 from three-point for a team low 18% shooting. Ball was productive nonetheless, dishing ten assists and grabbing eight boards in the win. Final Score: LaVar, 1. Marcin, 0. Er, rather: Lakers, 102. Wizards, 99. LaVar Ball maybe should read $1 billion Michael Jordan book.
