Hulu is ripping attention from streaming rivals Netflix and Amazon by winning awards and delivering groundbreaking original content — like The Handmaids Tale (watchable on Amazon now too). Pretend you’re a network exec hearing this elevator pitch: a group of (exceptionally good-looking) teenagers band together after discovering their parents are super-villains in disguise. They run away from their homes in order to right their parents’ wrongs. You buy it, right? That’s Marvel’s Runaways. Hulu snatched it up and it debuts in November. You noticed the Marvel in the title, didn’t you? It’s based on the comics that started telling this story in Runaways, which first appeared in 2003. Did we mention it takes place in Malibu? Where plenty of kids actually do think their parents are evil super-villains — and they might be right! You can begin a Free Trial of Hulu with Live TV here— and check out both Marvel’s Runaways and Future Man.
Hulu’s got Seth Rogen too, and his Future Man, featuring Josh Hutcherson as a custodian who time-travels when off the job, saving the world. Is Hutcherson well cast? You might say the role is made for him. The character’s name is Josh Futturman. Hulu looks to have a couple of homegrown hits on its hands. Again.
