The Voice is back for Season 13 with mentors Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Miley Cyrus, and newbie Jennifer Hudson. During the first round of Blind Auditions, a singer named Chris Weaver sings the classic Otis Redding song “Try a Little Tenderness,” and Adam and Jennifer are the first to turn their chairs. (Miley and Blake do too.)
JHud is eager to get on stage with Weaver. She approaches him with Miley Cyrus’ shoe and asks him if he knows what she’s doing. (It’s a compliment to throw a shoe on stage.) But Chris reminds JHud that she did exactly that two years ago when he sang for her at The Color Purple party. He hands her a photo from the event (see below). But there’s more! When Chris Weaver reveals that he’s a worship leader and a drag queen, the judges and crowd goes wild. JHud says she can relate to both. “Yes, you came from church but God gave you that voice to sing far and beyond,” she tells Chris. The Voice airs Mondays at 8pm on NBC.
