On the Season 13 premiere episode of The Voice, a number of singers will give stunning performances including Chris Weaver (“Try a Little Tenderness”) and Brooke Simpson. The bespectacled young woman sings the Demi Lovato song “Stone Cold” and leaves the audience speechless. Blake Shelton and Miley Cyrus turn around quickly which puts the sweetest smile on Brooke’s face. But just wait until Jennifer Hudson and Adam Levine also turn around. “You know you’re good because I’m a little speechless,” says Miley. And that’s a rare (fleeting!) thing.
After the performance, Brooke is asked who is on her playlist. She says she listens to all four of them but is quick to say that her greatest inspiration is her mother (who is standing off-stage with the rest of Brooke’s family including her husband). When JHud tells Brooks’ mom to hit a note, she covers her mouth in disbelief. But, Brooke’s mom (Jimille Mills) really can sing. She and her husband Mike Mills (Brooke’s dad) are the pastors of Mills Family Ministries. Listen to Brooke’s parents sing together in the audio clip below.
