Tennis legend Bjorn Borg never played much doubles, being too busy evidently winning Wimbledon five times in a row — and stuff like that. And as Captain of the European side at the Laver Cup, Borg has got a couple of players on his team that haven’t played much doubles either — guys named Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer. Currently ranked World #1 and World #2, Nadal and Federer have said that they would love to play doubles at the Laver Cup event. Together!
The Nadal-Federer doubles possibility sends tingles through the spines of tennis fans, who have been supplied with some of their greatest thrills courtesy of Nadal and Federer on opposite sides of the net. Borg, who retired at the top of his game and never much went in for hoopla and fanfare, nevertheless always took advantage of an opportunity to win. Here the Swede can win tennis hearts everywhere by pairing Nadal and Federer, which he must feel the pressure to do. The Laver Cup begins Friday in Prague. It’s a three-day exhibition featuring nine singles matches and 3 doubles matches. It can be seen in the US on the Tennis Channel.
