Dominique McClain Barteet is the pharmacist-turned-inventor behind One Sole, a line of interchangeable sandals. The West Palm Beach, Florida entrepreneur pitched her business on Shark Tank in 2011 and asked for an investment of $500,000 in exchange for 20 percent equity. (The only female Shark on the show Barbara Corcoran tried on a pair and called them “heaven.”) After receiving several offers, Barteet agreed to a $500,000 investment from retail guru Daymond John for 35 percent.
Since Shark Tank, One Soles have become available in several retail stores including Sam’s Club (see below). Barteet has secured a licensing deal with the NFL and offers customers the ability to customize their One Soles with their own photos. Meanwhile, Barteet has continues to design new One Sole interchangeable tops to change with the times.
