Instagrammable! We want Instagrammable! Designers were always charged with making restaurant environments that look great and make customers comfortable. (Note: Sometimes not too comfortable — some casual dining establishments are said to purposely choose chairs that are comfortable for no more than an hour — to increase customer turnover.) But while designers have the same job as ever, there’s a new wrinkle and it’s an important one. Restaurants are no longer designed for professional photographers to come in and make it look like heaven on earth for a glossy upscale magazine. (Well, some are, but…) Now restaurants are designed so anybody holstering an iPhone and Instagram can take a shareable snapshot that creates desire.
Casey Newton at The Verge explores the design trend that requires every consumer space be “Instagrammable.” It’s a change that chefs and bartenders, with beautiful plates and colorburst craft cocktails, have already been following. Newton mentions design firm Paperwhite Studio, which Grub Street also recently profiled, as a top choice for designing Instagrammable interiors. Here are 14 more top design firms that can make your bar or restaurant or retail space catch social media fire.
