Pediatric nurse Melissa Gersin of Boston, Massachusetts is the inventor of Tranquilo Mat, a lightweight, portable vibrating mat designed to calm crying babies. She pitched her “portable angel maker” on Shark Tank in February 2017 and made a deal with Robert Herjavec — $200,000 for 15 percent equity in the company.
After her successful pitch on Shark Tank, Gersin said she wants to hit three big goals this year: 1. add new features to the product; 2. do more marketing, which she hasn’t done a lot of; and 3. get into big box retail stores by the end of the year. Of her new investor, Gersin said: “Robert has been great to work with, his people are a good resource for us and have helped us streamline a lot of the process.” Shark Tank airs Fridays at 9pm on ABC.
