Elena & Sasha is a married act competing on America’s Got Talent, Season 12. They’re an unusual couple in that she’s a young, vibrant, beautiful 30-year-old American and he’s a 47-year-old Russian who speaks in broken English. But chemistry! And balance! Before their audition, Elena explains that her husband of four years will balance her on his face. She’s very blase about it. And when Simon Cowell asks why they’re on the show, she says, “I don’t know, for the free sandwiches.” She admits winning one million dollars would be nice too.
For their audition, Elena amazingly climbs up a tall pole that Sacha is balancing on his forehead. He then lets go of the pole and spins a hula-hop on each extended arm while she contorts her body in ways that would amaze even on the ground. After the performance, the judges were so surprised at the intensity of the act. Howie Mandel kidded, “You deserve two sandwiches.” Simon Cowell describes Elena as “nice and stupid,” which Elena says, “I get that a lot.” Elena and Sacha got four yeses. America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
