Oh if you lived in the ultra clever world of West Coast wizardry, where everything worth doing gets a cool name then you’d already know. But first things first, for all the cool names of Silicon Valley and Seattle products — from Kindle to Snap to Slack to Echo — no name for anything has proven as durably cool and fun as banana. (See the song. Or this one.) Yup, banana just can’t be out done — even by Apple (with a capital A). Plus it’s a healthy compostable snack.

So of course Amazon, the ever-innovative genius child of Jeff Bezos, created banana stands for employees, giving the bananas away free. And you can’t give away nearly 2 million bananas (1.7 mil and counting) without some sort of structure. For a real banana stand/bar to reach scale you need the equivalent of baristas and managers. Which is where “banista” and “bananager” come in. Those are the names given to employees who run Amazon’s robust banana operation — no word yet on the titles worn by banana-specific Amazon robots.
