In the Season 5 finale of Braxton Family Values, while Towanda deals with her ex-husband Andre Carter who tells her “I want my kids to be with me,” sister Toni Braxton reveals to Tamar, “My voice hasn’t been cooperating with me lately. So I’m really concerned.” Toni adds, “I don’t know what I’d do if I can’t perform, if I can’t sing.” There is reason for Toni to be concerned — she has Lupus.
Toni was diagnosed with Lupus in 2008, after collapsing during a show in Las Vegas. In 2012, her lupus symptoms returned and she was hospitalized again. In October 2016, Toni was hospitalized for four days and treated for complications from Lupus. WE is promoting the episode by saying Toni’s past “comes back to haunt her.” Braxton Family Values airs Thursdays at 9pm on WE.
