The new AMC drama The Son is based on Philipp Meyer’s 2013 novel which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. It’s about the rise and fall of one family’s Texas oil empire and transpires over multiple generations. The patriarch of the McCullough family is Eli (Pierce Brosnan), who was kidnapped as a child in 1849 and raised by the Comanche Native American tribe. Eli is known as the “First Son of Texas” because he was born on the day Texas became an independent Republic. Eli is also known for applying “the brutal Comanche worldview to his business dealings.”

Eli and his eldest son Pete have several conflicting views. As Pete says, “My father says no land was acquired honestly in the history of the earth. But that don’t make it right.” Pete McCullough is portrayed by Henry Garrett. The British-born actor is known for his roles on Poldark (Captain McNeil) and in the film Zero Dark Thirty (Bagram Guard), among others. The Son airs Saturdays at 9pm on AMC.
