Former three-term mayor of New York City Mike Bloomberg is the eighth richest man in the world. He considered running for President of the United States. “If I thought we could have won, I would have done it,” he tells Steve Kroft on 60 Minutes. After amassing $47 billion, the 75-year-old plans to give it all away. (He’s already given away $5 billion.) He is one of the 139 billionaire members of The Giving Pledge, started by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett.
On 60 Minutes, Bloomberg says he’s especially proud of spending a billion dollars to convince people to quit smoking. “We probably saved millions of lives,” he says of the effort. “There aren’t many people who have done that. So, you know, when I get to heaven, I’m not sure I’m going to stand for an interview – I’m going right in,” he laughs. 60 Minutes airs Sundays at 7pm on CBS.
