Mylen Yamamoto is the entrepreneur behind Cropsticks, an eco-friendly alternative to disposable wooden chopsticks. More than 60 billion sets of chopsticks are produced a year in China (1/3 of the population uses chopsticks) which requires about 3.8 million trees. Yamamoto’s alternative, Cropsticks, are made with sustainable, fast-growing bamboo – and they come with a clever built-in rest. (You snap off the top of the Cropsticks which turns into a rest.)

Yamamoto will pitch her business on Shark Tank (April 7) where Kevin O’Leary will lay claim to being a chopstick “expert.” One box of Cropsticks is sold for $6.99 on the Cropsticks website. Cropsticks also comes in wrapped consumer packs of 100 ($19.99) and restaurant packs of 2000 ($199.99). Shark Tank airs Fridays at 9pm on ABC, right after The Toy Box. (Got a toy idea?
