The My 600-lb Life: Supersized episode ‘James K’s Story’ features 46-year-old James of Paducah, Kentucky who weighs almost 800 lbs. Years ago, James was close to 500 lbs. when he fell and injured his ankle. His father said that after being immobilized, James’ weight “got out of hand.” When James gets the opportunity to meet and work with renowned gastric bypass surgeon Dr. Nowzaradan in Houston, James actually gains weight because he (and his girlfriend Lisa, mother of his two children) don’t adhere to the doctor’s program which is designed for patients to lose weight in order to be eligible for surgery. When James begged Lisa for Chinese food, she got it for him.

A furious Dr. Now refuses to treat James. However he does prescribe physical therapy which eventually leads to James sitting upright for the first time in three years. It took three people to hoist him up. At the end of the episode, James told the camera crew he would find a way to eat better and exercise, but things didn’t look hopeful — especially after Lisa’s car was towed and she didn’t have enough money to retrieve it. My 600-lb Life airs Thursdays at 8pm on TLC.
