Vegas oddsmakers got some strange looks when they ranked the Boston Celtics as the 4th best team in the NBA early in the season. They don’t get strange looks now. Isaiah Thomas scored 33 points in 33 minutes as the Celtics continued their tear, topping the 76ers 116-108. Thomas has now scored 20 points or more in 40 straight games, something even Celtics legends Paul Pierce and Larry Bird never accomplished.

The last Celtics player to score 20 points in 40 straight games was Hall of Famer John Havlicek — Hondo performed the feat in 1972. Thomas could surpass him in Chicago on Thursday night. The Celtics have won 11 of their last 12 and are surging up the standings as the Toronto Raptors struggle and the Cavaliers fail to put distance between themselves and the chasers. Boston (37-29) is 2.5 games back of the Eastern Conference lead.
