When 46-year-old Bonita Springs, Florida physician Dr. Teresa Sievers didn’t show up for work on June 29, 2015, her husband Mark Sievers (who was out of town) asked a friend to check on her at home. Sievers was found dead. She had been bludgeoned to death with a hammer (hit 17 times in the back of the head). The investigation lead police to two men in Missouri, Curtis Wayne Wright Jr., a friend of Mark Sievers who looks eerily like Sievers and a younger man named Jimmy Rodgers. Wright eventually confessed to killing the doctor. Part of his plea agreement involves testifying against Sievers who is currently on trial and facing the death penalty.
Investigators believe Mark Sievers hired Wright to kill his wife. Based on text messages and photos discovered on Mark Sievers’ phone, the couple’s marriage was “unraveling.” Prosecutors say Sievers’ motive to have Teresa Sievers killed was her life insurance policies worth approximately $4.43 million. 48 Hours investigates the death of Dr. Teresa Sievers on Saturday, February 18 at 10pm on CBS.
