In the MacGyver episode ‘Pliers’, MacGyver (Lucas Till) returns to his hometown when a science prodigy named Valerie is kidnapped from the local middle school. With a pair of pliers (among other things), MacGyver tries to rescue the young genius and is encouraged by his old science teacher, Mr. Arthur Ericson.

Mr. Ericson is portrayed by John Heard. The veteran actor is known for his roles in the Home Alone films (as Macaulay Culkin’s father), Big (Tom Hanks’ nemesis at work Paul), Awakenings (Dr. Kaufman), and Beaches (Bette Midler’s husband John), among many others. MacGyver airs Fridays at 8pm on CBS.
