Ohio Governor (and former GOP presidential contender) John Kasich couldn’t vote Trump and he couldn’t vote Clinton. Instead Kasich pretended the voting booth was a time machine and he wrote in the name John McCain at the top of the ticket.
A war hero and senator from Arizona, McCain was, of course, at the top of the GOP ticket in 2008. For Republicans it has been eight long Obama-rocked years since McCain lost the race. Still in Kasich’s opinion even 2008 seems like enviable times for the Republican Party compared to the options he’s got now — the global financial crisis and George W. Bush’s war-torn presidency notwithstanding. Lots of GOP “Never Trump” people like Kasich are finding creative ways to cast their ballots, wanting this Trump movie to end. McCain is said to be among the most popular write-ins, along with Mitt Romney and Mike Pence.
- John McCain
- Mitt Romney
- Mike Pence (yup, Trump’s running mate is a write-in fave)
