Eminem dropped an 8-minute freestyle rap bomb called “Campaign Speech” on Wednesday, making it clear that — in Em’s mind at least — not all misogyny is created equal. Even the Washington Post has described Eminem’s lyrics as misogynistic, contending that the rapper’s “calling out — and then threatening or insulting — prominent women is a frequently-used Eminem device to drive album sales.”
But face it, that’s nothing compared to what the media has said about the misogyny of Donald Trump, who uses a similar tactic which until recently seemed to be working. Also note: Eminem is a rapper; Donald Trump is a candidate for president. Not to condone a moral relativity, but, you know, these gigs have different job descriptions and demeanor requirements. Eminem brings it up himself in “Campaign Speech” asking “you call me misogynistic?” He calls Trump a “loose cannon.” (Warning: VERY explicit lyrics.) Em says he’s working on a new album.
