In the new TV drama Designated Survivor, after a catastrophic event hits Washington, DC, a low-level Cabinet member, Tom Kirkman, is next in line for the job of President of the United States. He’s never been elected ot any job and those few insiders who have survived don’t think Kirkman is the man for the position. Alex Kirkman is portrayed by Natascha McElhone. The English-born actress is known for her TV role as Karen on Californication, and in the films Solaris with George Clooney (Rheya), Laurel Canyon (Sara), Ronin (Deirdre), The Truman Show (Lauren/Sylvia), Mrs. Dalloway (Young Clarissa), and Surviving Picasso opposite Anthony Hopkins (Francoise Gilot), among others.
